Iheanacho Joins Sevilla FC on Free Transfer
Kelechi Iheanacho has made a big move, joining Sevilla FC after spending seven seasons at Leicester City. He’s signed a two-year deal with the Spanish club, and there’s even an option for an extra year.
The 27-year-old striker is excited about this new chapter in his career. He shared his feelings in his first interview with the club, saying, “I’m really happy coming to Sevilla. It’s been stressful the last 24 hours, but I needed to get things done quickly.”
Iheanacho, who originally hails from Nigeria, began his professional career back in 2014. His journey took him to Europe the next year when he joined Manchester City. During his two years there, he made 64 appearances and scored 21 goals.
In 2017, he switched to Leicester City and had a successful stint, playing 232 games and netting 61 goals. Now, he looks forward to making his mark at Sevilla, and he emphasized that this move was always his first choice despite other offers.
<p“I had it clear that I wanted to come here. There was a clear identity of what they wanted me to do,” he explained. He also expressed his enthusiasm about teaming up with Chidera Ejuke, another Nigerian who’s joined Sevilla, marking a historic moment as they become the first Nigerian players in the club’s history.
<pIheanacho is focused on the team’s success this season rather than individual goals. “The most important thing is the team. Together we can achieve great things this season,” he stated. He’s looking forward to contributing his best and helping Sevilla reach new heights.
<pAnother special aspect for him is reuniting with Jesús Navas, who gave him his first-ever assist during his time at Manchester City. “He’s a legend in this city and this football club. I’m coming to meet him in his home. I'll be happy to see him soon,” said Iheanacho as he expressed his excitement for this reunion.
