Iit Madras Tops Nirf Rankings Again

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) announced its 2024 rankings today, and guess what? IIT Madras has once again snagged the top spot in the overall category. This makes it the sixth consecutive year they’ve held this title!

IIT Madras not only shines in the overall rankings but also continues to be number one in the engineering category since NIRF started ranking in 2016. That’s quite an achievement!

In the university category, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru remains at the top too, with JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia following closely in second and third place respectively. IISc also secured the second-best rank in the overall category, showcasing its strong academic presence.

A total of 10,885 institutes participated this year, representing a huge increase since the very first edition back in 2016. This edition of the rankings also introduced three new categories: Open Universities, Skill Universities, and State Public Universities.

Moreover, the NIRF rankings are now more detailed, covering various subject domains like Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, and more. There have also been changes in criteria, particularly for medical colleges and state-funded government institutions, adjusting faculty to student ratios to enhance educational quality.
