Ilkay Gundogan Manchester City Signing

Ilkay Gundogan is set to finalize his return to Manchester City from Barcelona on a free transfer. The 33-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical examination with City on Thursday, preparing to sign a one-year contract with an option for an additional year.

Gundogan, who previously played for City from 2016 to 2023, has chosen to return to the club despite receiving interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Barcelona has permitted his departure as they seek to manage their wage bill.

The German international left City for Barcelona last summer after concluding his contract, having previously led the club to a historic treble. During his time at City, he made 304 appearances, netting 60 goals and contributing to the team’s success with 12 major trophies, including five Premier League titles and a Champions League title.

Having joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, Gundogan recently announced his retirement from international football. His return is seen as a strategic move by City to strengthen their midfield options.
