Inaugural TGL Finals Set After Shocking Upsets in Semifinals

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The inaugural season of Tomorrow's Golf League (TGL) is set to culminate in a highly anticipated best-of-three championship series between the fourth-seeded New York Golf Club and the third-seeded Atlanta Drive Golf Club on March 20 and 21 at the SoFi Center.
After unexpected semifinal victories, New York Golf Club stunned the top-seeded Los Angeles Golf Club with a 6-4 win, while Atlanta Drive Golf Club dispatched the second-seeded Bay Golf Club 9-3. The finals will begin with Match 1 on Monday, March 20 at 9 p.m. ET, airing on ESPN2/ESPN+, followed by Match 2 at 7 p.m. on March 21. If necessary, Match 3 will conclude the championship at 9 p.m. on March 21.
The stakes are high, with the winning team set to distribute a prize pool of $9 million among its members. Each player on the championship team will walk away with approximately $2.25 million. The season-long purse totals $21 million, with the runner-up team earning $4.5 million collectively.
Atlanta Drive Golf Club’s lineup for the finals will include Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, and Billy Horschel, while New York Golf Club will feature Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young. Both teams are eager to secure their place in TGL history as the first champions.
New York Golf Club seeks revenge after suffering a 4-0 loss to Atlanta Drive earlier in the season, marking the first shutout in TGL history. In that match, Atlanta’s well-rounded performance included Thomas’s commanding performance against Young, as well as Horschel’s clinching point against Fitzpatrick.
As Atlanta’s Thomas remarked after that match, “We’ve been solid across the board on the greens, making crucial putts when it counts.” Thomas currently leads the league with eight singles points, further contributing to Atlanta’s solid season.
Statistically, Atlanta Drive Golf Club has proven dominant in singles matches, securing 23 points and showcasing a balanced performance with high scores in strokes gained and putting accuracy. Atlanta’s success is complemented by its aggressive strategy of using the ‘Hammer’ — a unique element allowing teams to gain points on specific holes.
In contrast, New York Golf Club has excelled in alternate-shot competition, successfully accumulating 17 points in triples matches this season. Xander Schauffele reflects on the team’s recent momentum: “After a rough start, we’re finding our rhythm and focusing on maximizing our point gains in triples to build an early lead going into singles.”
The excitement surrounding the event is palpable, as both teams aim to adapt under the indoor conditions of the SoFi Center. The finals will utilize two different virtual course layouts to keep gameplay varied and engaging.
As fans eagerly await the showdown, the question remains: Can New York Golf Club overcome their past performance against Atlanta Drive Golf Club, or will Atlanta secure the inaugural title in TGL history?
