The Indian hockey team has made history by defeating Australia 3-2 in their final men’s hockey Pool B match at the Paris Olympics 2024. This marks a significant achievement as it is the first time India has claimed victory over Australia in hockey at the Olympics since the 1972 Games.

In a thrilling match, Abhishek opened the scoring for India, followed by two goals from captain Harmanpreet Singh. For Australia, Thomas Craig and Blake Govers found the back of the net, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

This triumph not only gives India their first win against Australia in 52 years but also helps them secure the second spot in Pool B, with a total of 10 points from 5 matches.

Belgium leads the Pool, while Australia ends up in third place. India’s journey in the tournament started off strong with a win against New Zealand, followed by a draw against Argentina, and another victory against Ireland.

The match was played at the Yves Du Manoir Stadium and kept fans on the edge of their seats as India showcased impressive teamwork and skill on the field.
