In a thrilling display of cricket, the Indian national cricket team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, emerged victorious over Bangladesh in the first T20 International (T20I) match of the three-game series. The encounter took place on October 6, 2024, at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, India. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Abhishek Sharma also contributed with scores of 16 runs each. Bangladesh’s bowling effort saw wickets from Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took one wicket each.
The standout performer of the match was Arshdeep Singh, whose impressive bowling secured him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Singh took three crucial wickets, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 3.65 and conceding only 14 runs, which helped restrict Bangladesh to a modest total.
The Bangladesh team, captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, struggled as they set a target of 128 runs for India. Their innings concluded at 127 runs in 19.5 overs. The Indian bowling attack effectively dismantled the Bangladesh lineup, with Varun Chakravarthy, making a comeback after three years, and Arshdeep Singh both taking three wickets each. Mayank Yadav, on his T20I debut, also made a significant impact by delivering a maiden over and capturing the wicket of Mahmudullah.
After the match, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav lauded his team’s performance, stating, “We just tried to back our skills and what we decided in our team meetings. The way the guys showed character playing on a new ground and the way we batted, it was great.” His counterpart, Najmul Hossain Shanto, reflected on the team’s shortcomings, admitting, “In T20, the first six overs are important but we didn’t do well. We need to do a proper plan in the next match.”
With this victory, India leads the series 1-0. The second T20I is scheduled to be held at Arun Jaitley International Stadium in Delhi on October 9, 2024.
