Indian Shooters Shine at Paris Olympics 2024
Exciting news from the Paris Olympics 2024 as Indian shooter Arjun Babuta impressively clinched a spot in the finals of the men’s 10m air rifle event. On Sunday, Arjun secured his place by finishing seventh in the qualification round.
The 25-year-old shooter from Chandigarh posted scores of 105.7, 104.9, 105.5, 105.4, 104.0, and 104.6, accumulating a total of 630.1 points to reach the finals. He will have another chance to fight for glory on Monday.
Just the day before, Arjun narrowly missed out on finals in the mixed team event along with teammate Ramita Jindal. The duo finished sixth in the qualification, which was a disappointment for them.
Arjun has been part of the national squad since 2016 and has often faced pressure and expectations. However, he turned things around last year when he secured his Olympic spot at the Asian Shooting Championships held in Changwon.
Another shooter, Sandeep Singh, who also competed in the men’s event wrapped up his campaign in Paris. He finished 12th with a score of 629.3, gaining valuable experience during his first Olympic appearance.
Among the competition, China’s Sheng Lihao topped the qualification round with an impressive score of 631.7, just shy of the qualification record set by his fellow countryman Yang Haoran, who scored 632.7 during the Tokyo Games.
The day was also memorable for India as Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta reached the finals of their respective 10m air rifle events on July 28, setting a positive tone for India’s shooting contingent.
Ramita made headlines as the first Indian female rifle shooter to reach the Olympic final since her coach, Suma Shirur, did it back in Athens 2004. She finished fifth in the rankings, aiming for a medal after an impressive qualifying round.
It truly has been a thrilling journey for these athletes as they continue to showcase their skills on the international stage at the Paris Olympics.
