Indiana Hoosiers Advance; Michigan Holds Off Iowa State in NCAA Tournament Upsets

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The No. 9 Indiana Hoosiers women’s basketball team triumphed over the Utah Utes 76-68 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 21, 2025, advancing to the second round of March Madness.
Indiana showcased impressive shooting efficiency throughout the game, driving their success on the court in this pivotal matchup. Next, the Hoosiers will face the winner of the South Carolina (1) versus Tennessee Tech (16) game, scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
In a different first-round contest, the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines narrowly defeated the 11th-seeded Iowa State Cyclones 80-74 in South Bend, Indiana. Michigan’s standout player, Jordan Hobbs, scored a remarkable 28 points, leading her team to victory and ensuring their advancement in the NCAA Tournament.
The Wolverines will meet the winner of the Notre Dame versus Stephen F. Austin game on Sunday, aiming for a shot at the Sweet 16.
Michigan struggled initially, shooting only 31 percent at one point but regrouped to connect on 12 out of 16 shots late in the game. Olivia Olson contributed 16 points, while Greta Kampschroeder and Mila Holloway added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Audi Crooks also had a notable performance for Iowa State, scoring 28 points along with Arianna Jackson contributing 12 points. The Cyclones had a strong second quarter by outscoring Michigan 24-13, giving them a 37-32 lead at halftime. However, Michigan recovered to close the gap and eventually secure their win.
With both teams showcasing impressive performances and clutch shooting, the thrills of NCAA Tournament basketball are just beginning.
