Indiana Hoosiers Vs Marian University Basketball Game

On Friday evening, the Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball team concluded their exhibition schedule with a resounding 106-64 win over Marian University at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Hoosiers were led by freshman Bryson Tucker, who scored a team-high 19 points on an efficient 9-for-12 shooting performance in 23 minutes. Tucker’s debut was marked by his ability to score from the midrange, at the rim, and in transition.

Junior forward Malik Reneau and sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo also had significant contributions, with Reneau adding 18 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, and Ballo scoring 16 points. The Hoosiers had five players score in double figures, showcasing their depth and offensive prowess.

Indiana’s dominance in the paint was a key factor in their victory, as they outscored Marian 70-24 in the paint and outrebounded them 48-28. The Hoosiers made an impressive 40-of-45 shots (88.9%) from inside the arc.

However, the Hoosiers continued to struggle with three-point shooting, making just 6-of-25 attempts from beyond the arc. This marks the second consecutive exhibition game where Indiana’s three-point shooting has been underwhelming, with a combined 10-for-44 (22.7%) from three-point range in both games.

The game also marked the debut of redshirt freshman Jakai Newton, who played his first minutes in an IU uniform after recovering from a knee injury. Newton contributed two points, four rebounds, and three assists in 12 minutes of play.

Before the game, Marian head coach Pat Knight, son of the late Bob Knight, received an ovation from IU fans and kissed the IU logo at center court, marking a special moment in his return to coaching.

The Hoosiers will open their 2024-25 regular season on November 6 against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
