Indiana Hoosiers Basketball Game Vs Usc

The Indiana Hoosiers secured their fifth consecutive win, defeating USC 79-63 on Wednesday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The victory improved Indiana’s record to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play, showcasing the team’s growing momentum as they head into a challenging stretch of conference games.

Senior center Oumar Ballo led the charge with a dominant performance, scoring 23 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and blocking two shots in 33 minutes. Ballo, who missed one game earlier in the season, has been on a tear since his return, averaging 21.7 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks over the last three games. His efficiency has been remarkable, shooting 64% from the field and 60% from the free-throw line during this stretch.

Senior forward Luke Goode also played a pivotal role, contributing 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Goode credited assistant coach Brian Walsh for helping him regain his shooting form, mentioning a book Walsh recommended that has improved his mindset. “Coach Walsh actually played a similar role to me in college, so he understands the shooting slumps and ups and downs,” Goode said after the game.

Redshirt sophomore point guard Myles Rice continued his strong play, finishing with 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and a steal. Over the last four games, Rice has averaged 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and four assists, solidifying his role as a key contributor for the Hoosiers.

Defensively, Indiana has been a force, holding opponents under a point per possession in four of their last five games. The Hoosiers rank third in the Big Ten in defensive efficiency, allowing just 1.036 points per possession in conference play. However, the team faces a tougher schedule ahead, starting with a road game against Iowa, which boasts the fifth-best offensive efficiency in the Big Ten.

Rebounding, once a weakness for Indiana, has become a strength. After struggling early in the season, the Hoosiers have improved significantly on the glass, ranking 80th nationally in defensive rebounding percentage and second in the Big Ten during conference play. Against USC, Indiana limited the Trojans to just 19.4% offensive rebounding, a testament to their improved effort and execution.

As the Hoosiers prepare for a grueling 11-game stretch, Goode emphasized the importance of maintaining their defensive and rebounding intensity. “I think to be able to continue to be successful in the Big Ten, in a physical league, we got to keep defending and rebounding,” he said.

Indiana’s next challenge comes on the road against Iowa, where they will look to extend their winning streak and solidify their position in the Big Ten standings.
