Indiana Hoosiers Make Historic Leap to No. 8 in Latest AP College Football Poll
The Indiana Hoosiers have achieved a significant milestone in their 2024 football season, rising to the No. 8 spot in the latest Associated Press (AP) college football poll. This ranking marks the fifth time in program history that the Hoosiers have been ranked in the top 10, with their highest ranking ever being No. 4, achieved in 1945 and 1967.
The Hoosiers’ ascent to the top 10 follows their impressive 9-0 start to the season, including a dominant 47-10 victory over Michigan State on Saturday. This win extended their unbeaten streak and solidified their position in the national rankings. Indiana’s performance has been characterized by a strong scoring margin, averaging a 33-point advantage per game, which has drawn comparisons to other top-tier teams like Ohio State and Oregon.
According to the AP poll, Indiana received 1,123 points, placing them just behind No. 7 Tennessee and No. 6 Penn State. The Hoosiers’ success is attributed to their well-rounded team performance, with both the offense and defense executing at a high level. Coach Curt Cignetti‘s focus on daily preparation and execution has been highlighted as a key factor in their success.
The newly expanded College Football Playoff, which will include 12 teams this year, has Indiana in a strong position to compete for a national championship. ESPN‘s Football Power Index gives the Hoosiers an 86.6% chance of making the playoffs and a 5.6% chance of winning the national title.
Looking ahead, Indiana is set to face Michigan in Week 11, with the Hoosiers favored by 12.5 points. This game will be crucial as Indiana aims to maintain their undefeated record and strengthen their case for the College Football Playoff.
