Indiana Hoosiers Seek Redemption Against UCLA Bruins in Big Ten Clash

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers are looking to build momentum after a hard-fought 71-67 victory against No. 11 Michigan State on February 11, as they prepare to face UCLA this Friday, February 14, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Despite the win, Indiana faces challenges in proving itself a contender in the Big Ten and for the NCAA Tournament.
After halting a five-game losing streak, the Hoosiers (15-10, 6-8 Big Ten) have not won consecutive games since an eight-point victory over Southern California on January 8, 2025. With upcoming matchups against top-tier teams, including Friday’s opponent, Indiana is eager to capitalize on its recent success.
The Bruins (18-7, 9-5 Big Ten) enter the game following an 83-78 loss to Illinois, ending their seven-game winning streak. Head coach Mick Cronin leads a team that has thrived this season, showcasing an overall better performance compared to Indiana. Both squads have faced their share of struggles recently, but a victory for either team could significantly boost their NCAA Tournament hopes.
“We have to take it one game at a time,” said Indiana head coach Mike Woodson. “This game against UCLA is crucial to gaining confidence and continuing to improve our standing.”
UCLA is aiming for its first road win against Indiana since the two teams last met in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The series is tied at six wins each, adding an extra layer of intensity to the Friday night matchup.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on FOX, featuring Jason Benetti and Robbie Hummel on the commentary team.
Indiana’s defense has been a notable issue, surrendering an average of 73.2 points per game and allowing at least 70 points in eight consecutive games before the victory over Michigan State.
“We must tighten our defense,” added Woodson. “It’s essential to control the game tempo and minimize their scoring opportunities.”
For Indiana, junior forward Malik Reneau has emerged as a key player. In the previous game, he recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Center Oumar Ballo also contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds, showcasing the team’s potential to dominate inside.
UCLA, on the other hand, has been led by junior forward Tyler Bilodeau, who averaged 14.3 points per game this season. Bilodeau’s recent performance saw him score 25 points against Illinois, which underscores the Bruins’ reliance on his scoring ability.
UCLA’s strong defense has kept them competitive throughout the season. They have limited opponents to just 64.6 points per game, ranking them in the top 25 nationally for scoring defense. “As long as we stay focused and execute our game plan, we can be successful,” Cronin said regarding his team’s strategy against Indiana.
This game represents an opportunity for both teams to solidify their respective standings in the increasingly competitive landscape of NCAA basketball. While Indiana seeks to prove itself a NCAA Tournament-worthy team, UCLA aims to regain its dominance in the conference.
As the teams prepare for what promises to be an exciting matchup, fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Indiana can muster the strength for consecutive wins, or if UCLA will assert its dominance once again.
