Aaron Nesmith Indiana Pacers Playoffs

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith has emerged as a standout performer in the Eastern Conference Finals, showcasing his skills during the playoffs. His success story begins with a unique shooting cue developed with assistant coach Lloyd Pierce.

When Nesmith receives an open catch-and-shoot opportunity, he often taps his right foot as a game-time ritual before launching a shot. ‘It’s something I do subconsciously,’ Nesmith said. ‘When I catch the ball if I’m wide open, I tap my right foot three to five times before I set my feet and shoot.’ This chant, ‘leave it,’ reminds him to focus as he releases the ball.

Since joining the Pacers from the Boston Celtics, Nesmith has become one of the key players in Indiana’s playoff run. He played a pivotal role in the team’s advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, notably contributing points against the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in the playoffs. He has shown a remarkable consistency, having joined the prestigious NBA ‘50-40-90’ shooting club this past season by hitting 50.7 percent of his field goals, 41.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 91.7 percent at the foul line.

During the postseason, Nesmith has elevated his play even further, not only delivering on offense but also taking on tough defensive assignments. In the second round against the Cavaliers, he effectively guarded star player Donovan Mitchell, which contributed significantly to the Pacers’ upset win.

With the Pacers now facing the New York Knicks, Nesmith’s defensive prowess will be crucial as he is expected to guard either Karl-Anthony Towns or Jalen Brunson. His ability to make hustle plays, such as crashing the boards and forcing turnovers, has made him an invaluable asset to the Pacers’ playoff campaign.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle praised Nesmith for his work ethic and adaptability since arriving in Indiana. ‘He’s really worked at it,’ Carlisle said about Nesmith adjusting to the Pacers’ style of play. ‘He’s found his role here as an energizer.’ This newfound role has allowed Nesmith to blossom into a key contributor on a playoff team, something he aims to continue against the Knicks.

As the Eastern Conference Finals unfold, Nesmith has become a name to watch in the NBA. With his explosive skill set and energetic defense, he is set to draw national attention as the Pacers aim for a championship title.
