Indy 500 Lineup Set for May 25 with New Record Holders

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The starting lineup for the 109th Indianapolis 500 has been finalized, featuring 33 drivers set to race on Sunday, May 25, at 12:45 p.m. ET. The 200-lap race will take place on the iconic 2½-mile oval.
Rookie driver secured the pole position with an average speed of 232.790 mph over four qualifying laps during the Fast Six event on May 18. Two-time defending champion will start at the back of the lineup following penalties related to illegal modifications on their vehicles.
The drivers were placed in the starting order based on performances from qualifying rounds over the past two days. The top speeds for Rows 1 and 2 were achieved during the Fast Six, while speeds for Rows 3 and 4 were set in the Fast 12 qualifying sessions. Rows 5 through 10 secured their positions on May 17, and Row 11 resulted from last-chance qualifying on May 18.
Among notable changes, drivers including have all moved up two places in the lineup due to the penalties placed on drivers Josef Newgarden and Will Power, who will start in positions 32nd and 33rd respectively. Power is a two-time Indy 500 winner, having last won in 2018.
In addition to the main lineup, several drivers are preparing for their first Indy 500, including rookie Christian Rasmussen, who qualified in the 20th position with a speed of 231.348 mph. This race marks a significant moment in some of these athletes’ careers, as they join a storied tradition of racing history.
Television coverage of the event will feature experts and commentary on SiriusXM Channel 218, along with live broadcasts across various networks.
The 2025 IndyCar Series will consist of 17 races in total, with the upcoming race serving as one of the season highlights.
