Injury Doubts for Kansas Freshman Ahead of Key Matchup
LAWRENCE, Kansas — Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self announced Monday that star freshman Darryn Peterson will be sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Peterson, the top player in the 2025 recruiting class, missed two games last week against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Princeton.
“Darryn continues to make progress from his hamstring strain,” Self said in a statement. “He will be reevaluated at the end of the week.” Peterson’s last game was on Nov. 7 against North Carolina, where he scored 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
On Monday, Self confirmed that Peterson will miss the upcoming game on Nov. 18 against No. 4 Texas. This highly anticipated matchup would have featured Peterson against another top recruit, Cameron Boozer, ranked No. 3 overall in the class.
<p“He’s got tightness in his right hamstring,” Self said after the Nov. 15 game against Princeton. “He wants to be out there so bad, but I’m not going to put him out there until he feels well. The battle is not nearly as important as the long term.”
The Jayhawks are looking to maintain momentum from their recent performances, even without Peterson. Their next game will be on Nov. 24, where continuing to build on their early season successes will be crucial for Kansas.
