The competition, held at Royal Montreal, saw a shift in momentum in Saturday morning’s Four-ball session as the U.S. regained their footing with a 3-1 win, bringing the overall score to 8-6 in their favor.
Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa were instrumental in clinching the first point for the U.S. on Saturday, overcoming Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith of the International Team. Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim from the International Team retaliated with a 4-and-3 victory against Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark. Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele contributed another point for the U.S. by defeating Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes with a 3-and-2 finish. The U.S. team rounded off the session with Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns securing a 2-and-1 victory over Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im.
In the Saturday afternoon Foursomes match, Taylor Pendrith and Adam Scott delivered a crucial win for the International Team, defeating Brian Harman and Max Homa by a 2-up margin. Pendrith and Scott showed resilience, turning their game around with a series of birdies after trailing early in the match. Brian Harman and Max Homa have struggled as partners, bringing their team record to 0-2 this week.
Collin Morikawa, alongside Sam Burns, secured a narrow 1-up victory over the Canadian pair, Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. The match was a seesaw battle with both teams exchanging leads. Despite a dramatic eagle hole by Hughes, Morikawa clinched the win for the U.S. team on the 18th hole.
Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele narrowly defeated the International Team’s Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim. The match, marked by dramatic turns of events, was decided when Cantlay sank a critical 17-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, boosting the U.S. team’s overall lead.
