Inter Miami Prepares for Clash Against FC Porto in Club World Cup

Atlanta, Georgia — Inter Miami faces FC Porto on Thursday in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, hoping to secure a spot atop Group A. Both teams seek their first win after being held to 0-0 draws in their opening matches.
Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano confirmed that star player Lionel Messi will be ready to play, despite earlier concerns about an injury. “Leo is fit, he trained, he completed the whole session,” Mascherano stated during a press conference.
Left-back Jordi Alba is also set to return after missing the first match due to a minor injury. Mascherano noted, “We’ll evaluate what’s best for us, if he starts or not,” indicating potential tweaks in the lineup.
Inter Miami’s midfield will likely feature Sergio Busquets and Federico Redondo, who both bring experience to the squad. Busquets acknowledged the challenge against Porto, emphasizing, “They have very good players, they have reinforced and we know that it will be very difficult.”
The match will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a venue where Miami has previously played. Mascherano expressed confidence, saying, “We’re 11 against 11, and when you have enthusiasm and confidence, you can compete against any opponent.”
Despite injury challenges, Mascherano is optimistic, hoping to prove that his team can compete with European clubs. After the match with Porto, Miami’s next group stage game is against Palmeiras on Monday.
