Inter Miami's World Tour Ends On A High Note With Lionel Messi's Return

Inter Miami‘s grueling world tour came to an end as they faced Japanese league champion, Vissel Kobe, in a thrilling match at Tokyo on Wednesday. Lionel Messi made his return from injury, playing 30 minutes and showing promising signs for the team. Despite their efforts, the match ended in a 0-0 tie, leading to a penalty shootout that Vissel Kobe won 4-3.

After missing the previous game in Hong Kong and playing only seven minutes in Saudi Arabia due to a hip injury, Messi’s return to the field was eagerly anticipated. Inter Miami coach Tata Martino decided to have him play for 30 minutes and Messi seemed comfortable and happy with his performance.

Another key player who returned to the starting lineup was Luis Suarez, while Sergio Busquets unfortunately suffered an injury early in the game with a hard hit to his right ankle and had to be substituted. Despite the setbacks, Miami made several dangerous approaches but couldn’t find the finishing touch to score.

The match seemed to be heading towards a draw, but a penalty shootout was announced to the surprise of the players and fans. Messi chose not to take a penalty, while Leo Campana, Julian Gressel, and Jordi Alba successfully converted their attempts for Miami. However, Vissel Kobe’s Robert Taylor hit the crossbar and goalkeeper Shota Arai saved attempts by Noah Allen and Gregore.

Reflecting on the match, coach Martino acknowledged the quality of Vissel Kobe and considered it an even game. Overall, he was pleased with the team’s performance, particularly in the second half where they improved. The presence of Messi on the field provided a significant boost and helped Miami compete against their strong opponents.

Throughout the tour, fans in Japan, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia showed their support for Messi, with many wearing his signature No. 10 jersey. Messi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception received in each city and the team’s appreciation for the treatment they received.

Looking ahead, Inter Miami will play their final preseason match at home against Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys on February 15. This match holds special significance as it is the hometown team of both Messi and Martino. The MLS regular season will kick off on February 21 with Inter Miami facing Real Salt Lake at the Hard Rock Stadium.
