Investigation Launched into the Death of ABSU Student in Cult Clash
The Government of Abia State has commenced an inquiry into the demise of an unnamed 400-level student at Abia State University (ABSU) following a clash between rival cult factions. The disclosure was made by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, at a media briefing. Kanu acknowledged the violent incident at the university which resulted in the death of the student.
During the press conference, Kanu confirmed the existence of videos circulating online that captured the disturbing event. He assured the public that measures had been taken to restore peace and order on the ABSU campus. Security agencies have been deployed, and an investigation has been initialized to ensure accountability.
Students across all tertiary institutions in Abia State were admonished by Kanu to prioritize peaceful coexistence and avoid behavior that could jeopardize their well-being and academic progress. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, mentioned uncertainties surrounding the specifics of the clash and indicated that government representatives were working to gather accurate information.
Police authorities in Abia State, led by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the fatality of the ABSU student. Chinaka reported that a swift response from law enforcement, including military personnel, led to the dispersal of the perpetrators at the scene. The deceased student was evacuated to the morgue, and evidence was collected for ongoing investigations.
Speaking to the press, Chinaka reiterated the commitment of the police to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. As investigations progress, the Abia State Police Command assured the public of updates on the case.
