Iowa Rutgers Basketball Game Action

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Iowa Hawkeyes (13-10, 4-8 Big Ten) will face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (12-12, 5-8) on Wednesday evening at Jersey Mike's Arena as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak in Big Ten Conference play. The game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.

Coming off a disappointing 74-63 loss to No. 19 Wisconsin, Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery‘s squad is looking to regain their footing on the road. “It’s crucial to find some rhythm offensively and defend well,” McCaffery said in anticipation of the match.

Iowa’s offense has shown potential, averaging 84.5 points per game this season on 49.6% shooting. They excel at three-point shooting, converting 38.2% of attempts. However, the team has struggled in recent games, particularly with consistent scoring and rebounding. Defensively, Iowa forces 14.2 turnovers and averages 7.5 steals per game.

For Iowa to be successful against Rutgers, they must prioritize winning the rebounding battle, which has eluded them during their recent slide. “We need to focus on getting those second-chance points and keeping them uncomfortable on offense,” McCaffery added.

The matchup, however, poses an additional challenge for Iowa, as guard Drew Thelwell is not expected to play due to an ankle injury sustained in a previous game. Thelwell has been a key contributor, averaging 10.5 points and leading the team in three-point shooting at 42.2%. “Losing Drew is another hurdle,” McCaffery noted. “But we have players who are ready to step up.”

As the season progresses, the Hawkeyes must navigate a tough schedule, facing back-to-back road games against Rutgers and Maryland. Iowa is still seeking their first win on the road this season, having lost five true road games, four of which were by double digits.

Fans can tune into the game via the Big Ten Network or stream it through various platforms, including online services offering free trials for new subscribers. Iowa fans can also listen to the game on the Hawkeye Radio Network, featuring play-by-play from Gary Dolphin and analyst Bobby Hansen.

As tip-off approaches, the Hawkeyes look to harness a sense of urgency and determination in their fight to break the losing streak and make a mark in the Big Ten.
