Iowa’s Caitlin Clark Becomes Fourth All-Time Leading Scorer in Women’s College Basketball History
Iowa’s Caitlin Clark has made history in women’s college basketball, becoming the fourth all-time leading scorer in NCAA history. With a game-high 32 points against Wisconsin, Clark surpassed Baylor‘s Britney Griner to claim the spot. Her scoring ability has captivated fans throughout the season, as she leads the NCAA with an average of 31 points per game.
This remarkable performance on Tuesday marked the tenth time this year that Clark scored more than 30 points in a single game. Impressive statistics aside, Clark has now scored a total of 3,306 points in 119 games, surpassing Griner’s record of 3,283 points in 148 games during her tenure at Baylor.
Clark’s incredible performance has placed her within striking distance of climbing even higher in the all-time scoring list. She currently needs 87 points to surpass Jackie Stiles for third place, 96 points to surpass Kelsey Mitchell in second place, and an additional 221 points to surpass Kelsey Plum and claim the top spot as the all-time leading scorer in Division I women’s basketball.
The Hawkeyes still have at least 12 more games remaining in their schedule, giving Clark ample opportunities to break Plum’s record. If Clark maintains her outstanding average of 31 points per game, she is projected to break the record in just eight more games, specifically when Iowa faces Indiana on February 22.
Clark’s achievements have not gone unnoticed, as she was recently named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the fourth consecutive week. Her impact on the game has also led to a surge in ticket prices for those eager to witness her skills firsthand. Seats for her upcoming game at Ohio State are selling for an average of over $200 on the secondary market.
Iowa’s Assistant Athletics Director for Ticket Operations, Jess Rickertsen, expressed hope that people recognize not only Clark’s incredible performance on the court but also her character off the court. Rickertsen emphasized Clark’s sportsmanship, teamwork, and the positive influence she has on her teammates and coaches.
