Iowa State Cyclones Dominate UCF in Big 12 Showdown
AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State Cyclones delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night at Hilton Coliseum, defeating the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights 89-65. Joshua Jefferson led the charge with a career-high 30 points, while Keshon Gilbert added 21 points and eight assists in a game that showcased the Cyclones’ offensive firepower and defensive tenacity.
The Cyclones (16-2 overall, 6-1 Big 12) shot an impressive 56% from the field and dominated the boards with a 43-29 rebounding edge. They also forced 16 steals and outscored UCF 18-5 in fast-break points. “It was a complete team effort,” said Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger. “Our guys came out with energy and executed on both ends of the floor.”
Jefferson, who had not scored 30 points in a game since Caleb Grill in 2022, was unstoppable, hitting 11 of 15 shots, including two 3-pointers. “Joshua was phenomenal tonight,” Otzelberger added. “He played with confidence and made big plays when we needed them.”
UCF (12-7 overall, 3-4 Big 12) struggled to keep pace, despite a brief second-half surge where they hit five consecutive field goals. The Knights were led by Keyshawn Hall, who scored 14 points, but their efforts were not enough to overcome Iowa State’s relentless pressure.
The Cyclones now prepare for a challenging two-game road trip in Arizona, facing Arizona State on Saturday and Arizona on Monday. “This was a great win, but we know we have to stay focused,” said Jefferson. “Every game in the Big 12 is a battle.”
