Iowa Football Players At Nfl Combine 2025

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Seven Iowa football players are showcasing their talents at the NFL Scouting Combine from February 24 to March 3, 2025, a critical step toward enhancing their draft stock. The athletes include running back Kaleb Johnson, linebacker Jay Higgins, tight end Luke Lachey, offensive lineman Connor Colby, defensive lineman Yahya Black, and defensive backs Sebastian Castro and Jermari Harris.

The NFL Combine is an unprecedented opportunity for college athletes to demonstrate their skills and athleticism to NFL scouts and coaches. Given that many of Iowa’s draft prospects currently have low projections, the stakes are particularly high this year. “It’s all about making a good impression, and this is the place where it happens,” said Johnson, who looks to elevate his status after a record-breaking season.

According to ESPN’s prospect rankings, Johnson is currently rated as the No. 50 overall player and No. 3 running back. His stock trails Ashton Jeanty, the presumed top running back in the draft class. “I’ve worked hard to get to this point, and I want to show that I can compete at the next level,” Johnson added.

Castro has also gained attention with his past performances, which include three interceptions in the 2023 season and a remarkable 43.7 NFL passer rating. Despite a less impressive 2024 season, he remains a versatile option for NFL teams looking for defensive backs.

Lachey not only posted a career-best catch percentage of 71.8% but also boasts significant upside at the tight end position, although injuries have hampered his draft stock. Meanwhile, Colby aims to become the 20th offensive lineman drafted during the Kirk Ferentz era after a successful college career, having been a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2024.

Higgins, who has consistently excelled over the last two seasons, set a Hawkeye program record for tackles in 2023 and was named a unanimous All-American in 2024. “I’m excited to show what I can do here, especially since it feels like a homecoming for me,” said Higgins, who attended high school just a short distance from the Combine venue.

Despite their achievements, some notable Hawkeye players, such as offensive lineman Mason Richman and defensive end Deontae Craig, did not receive invitations to the Combine. Richman’s absence is surprising given his solid performance as an all-Big Ten honorable mention. Craig caught eyes during the Music City Bowl with standout plays that could have solidified his candidacy.

The NFL Scouting Combine, being held in Indianapolis for the 38th consecutive year, is regarded as one of the most significant pre-draft evaluations for NFL teams. Over 300 prospects will participate in essential drills and interviews, which will take place in premier facilities that are set on delivering top-notch evaluations.

As the week unfolds, players will try to capitalize on their time in Indianapolis to boost their draft status, ahead of the NFL Draft set for April. Live coverage of drills begins on February 27, highlighting different positional groups each day, thereby maximizing visibility for all participating athletes.
