Iowa Secures Commitment from Top Transfer QB Mark Gronowski
Iowa has landed a major addition to its football program with the commitment of South Dakota State transfer quarterback Mark Gronowski. The highly sought-after signal-caller, ranked as the top available quarterback in the transfer portal by Rivals, announced his decision on Jan. 7, 2025, after a visit to Iowa City.
Gronowski, a four-star portal target and the No. 30 overall player in this cycle, brings a wealth of experience and success to the Hawkeyes. Over four seasons at South Dakota State, he completed 755 of 1,188 passes for 10,309 yards, 93 touchdowns, and just 20 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,767 yards and 37 touchdowns on 385 carries.
The Nequa Valley High School product led the Jackrabbits to three FCS National Championship appearances, securing titles in 2022 and 2023. This season, South Dakota State fell to North Dakota State in the FCS semi-finals, 28-21. Gronowski’s lone start against Iowa came in 2022, where he completed 10 of 26 passes for 87 yards in a 7-3 loss.
Originally from Naperville, Illinois, Gronowski was recruited by Iowa out of high school but did not receive a scholarship offer. He chose South Dakota State over offers from Valparaiso and Butler, with Ball State and Miami (OH) also showing interest.
Gronowski is the fourth transfer addition for Iowa this offseason, joining other portal commits as the Hawkeyes look to bolster their roster for the 2025 season.
