Ipswich Town Manager Kieran McKenna Addresses Chelsea Job Speculation
Ipswich Town‘s talented manager, Kieran McKenna, has broken his silence amidst swirling speculation connecting him with the vacant managerial position at Chelsea. McKenna, who has steered Ipswich to two consecutive promotions, recently clinching the League Managers Association‘s manager of the year award, is being touted as a potential candidate to replace the departed Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
Speaking to Sky Sports, McKenna expressed his focus on the recent successes at Ipswich, downplaying the rumors linking him to Chelsea. He attributed the speculation to the club’s remarkable achievements and emphasized the celebration of Ipswich’s progress over the past seasons under his stewardship.
The 38-year-old McKenna stepped in as Ipswich’s manager in December 2021, propelling the team from 12th in League One to the Championship and securing the prestigious LMA manager of the year accolade, besting the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.
Chelsea, on the other hand, bid farewell to Pochettino following a season where he guided them to a sixth-place finish. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s potential decision on Erik ten Hag‘s future looming, Chelsea is reportedly on the lookout for a youthful manager to take the reins, with McKenna being one of the suggested candidates alongside Thomas Tuchel, Vincent Kompany, Thomas Frank, and Hansi Flick, the former boss of Bayern Munich.
