Islam Makhachev’s Secret Wedding with UFC Stars in Attendance

MAKHACHKALA, Russia — Islam Makhachev, a top star in the UFC, quietly married in April 2021, with several prominent figures from the sport in attendance. The event took place in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, at an undisclosed hotel.

Makhachev, currently ranked No. 2 in the pound-for-pound category and No. 1 lightweight fighter, has drawn attention for both his impressive skills inside the Octagon and his elusive personal life. Although he is a household name in mixed martial arts, details about his marriage have remained largely private.

Among the notable attendees at Makhachev’s wedding were UFC legends Khabib Nurmagomedov, Zubaira Tukhugov, and Shamil Zavurov. While not many photographs from the ceremony have surfaced, reports indicate that Makhachev’s wife was seen holding his arm as they navigated through the guests.

Makhachev has shared glimpses of his personal life with fans, occasionally discussing his children. In a conversation with UFC legend Demetrious Johnson, he revealed that he has three children – one daughter and two sons. Makhachev expressed how his young children sometimes disrupt his sleep because they wake early in the morning.

“I have kids like they’re all small, you know, they wake up five in the morning, four in the morning,” he told Johnson. “It’s bothering me, but I still sleep with my kids always because I miss them because I travel a lot.”

When asked during a press conference how he balances fight preparation with family responsibilities, Makhachev candidly responded, “I don’t see them much.” Despite the challenges his career poses, he emphasizes the importance of family support while training.
