Islanders Vs Capitals Nhl Game April 2025

NEW YORK, April 15, 2025 — The New York Islanders are set to host the Washington Capitals tonight at UBS Arena for their final home game of the season, a matchup filled with emotion and significance as it coincides with Fan Appreciation Night.

The Islanders (35-33-12) are coming off a hard-fought 1-0 win against the New Jersey Devils, showcasing their determination despite being eliminated from playoff contention. Goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin earned his 30th win of the season, which included a shutout and moved him closer to franchise records.

Conversely, the Capitals (50-21-9) clinched first place in the Metropolitan Division and are poised for a playoff run following a recent 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Alex Ovechkin remains a standout player, recently scoring his 896th career goal—a mark that further solidified his position as the NHL’s all-time leading scorer.

The Islanders lead the season series 1-0-1 against the Capitals, having won their last meeting on April 6. “We want to finish well,” said Islanders head coach Patrick Roy, reflecting the team’s pride and resolve.

Matt Martin, a staple of Islanders hockey, is expected to wear an ‘A’ for the first time in his career tonight. The forward expressed his deep attachment to the team, stating, “I’ve been so proud to wear this jersey and be a part of this team and community.” This may be Martin’s last home game, an emotion he conveyed when he reflected on his career with the Islanders.

Both teams have made some lineup adjustments, with the Islanders possibly sitting Scott Perunovich and retaining forward Anthony Duclair as scratches. For the Capitals, Aliaksei Protas will miss the game with a lower-body injury.

As the Islanders prepare for their last home appearance, the Capitals are looking forward to the upcoming playoffs, marking their first season with 50 wins since 2016-17. Despite recent struggles in their performance, they remain focused on their goal of playoff success.

“This is a special place,” Martin expressed. It’s a sentiment that reflects the bittersweet nature of the evening.
