Israeli Protests For Hostages May 2025

TEL AVIV, Israel — Thousands of Israelis gathered in central Tel Aviv on Saturday, May 10, 2025, demanding the government secure the immediate release of hostages held in Gaza and end the ongoing conflict. Organized by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, the rally took place in “Hostages Square” while families of captives demonstrated outside Israeli military headquarters.

Another protest occurred at Habima Square, where Shai Mozes, a former hostage with parents released in previous exchange deals, criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “The real enemy is not Hamas but Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is destroying Israel as a Jewish and democratic state,” Mozes told the crowd.

Reports indicate there are currently 59 Israeli captives in Gaza, with 35 confirmed dead and 21 presumed alive. Relatives of captives are concerned about Netanyahu’s decision to escalate military operations, believing it endangers their loved ones. Al Jazeera correspondent Hamdah Salhut stated, “Family members say Netanyahu prolongs the war for personal gain and refuses to consider a ceasefire.”

In response to Netanyahu’s announcement to intensify military actions, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum condemned the strategy, saying it jeopardizes the lives of those still in captivity. Protests are also expected in cities like Jerusalem and Haifa, as frustrations grow about the government’s handling of the hostage situation.

During the rallies, demonstrators symbolized each captive with 59 stretchers, emphasizing the urgency for action. Michel Iluz, father of a deceased hostage, warned, “A black flag flies over this mission,” referencing the risk posed by planned military operations in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Hamas released a video showing two captives in good health, urging the government to end the war. Israeli media identified the men as Elkana Bohbot and Yosef Haim Ohana, both taken during an attack on a music festival on October 7, 2023. Ohana appealed in Hebrew, asking for the release of all hostages.

As the conflict continues, public pressure mounts on the government to negotiate a comprehensive solution while ensuring the safety of those still held in Gaza.
