Matilde Lorenzi Skiing Accident Val Senales

Promising Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi has tragically passed away following a severe accident during a training session in northern Italy. The 19-year-old athlete was involved in a fatal crash on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales on October 28, 2024.

Lorenzi, who was affiliated with the Italian army and a member of the women’s junior team, suffered critical injuries when she fell and violently hit her face on the icy ground. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries.

The young skier had already made significant strides in her career, participating in the junior world championships last season where she achieved sixth place in downhill and eighth in super-G. She also competed in the European Cup circuit, a secondary level of racing.

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) and the Italian winter sports community have expressed deep sorrow over her loss. FISI President Flavio Roda and the entire Italian skiing community are in mourning, standing by her family, friends, and teammates.

Lorenzi was a native of Villarbasse near Turin and had won the Italian title in Alpine skiing last year. Her achievements and potential had marked her as a rising star in the skiing world).
