Montreal, CanadaJack Della Maddalena became the new UFC welterweight champion after defeating Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision at UFC 315 on May 10, 2025. In a five-round battle at the Bell Centre, Della Maddalena showcased his striking abilities, landing significant punches while successfully defending Muhammad’s attempts to take the fight to the ground.

From the start, Della Maddalena set the pace, consistently outstriking Muhammad. The judges scored the fight 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in favor of the Australian, who improved his record to 18 wins and 2 losses following his eighth consecutive UFC victory.

“It feels (very) good,” said Della Maddalena after the fight. He emphasized the importance of staying smart and maintaining his position during Muhammad’s ground attempts, stating, “I knew I couldn’t spend too much time on my back.”

Muhammad, who was making his first title defense, started strong but struggled to maintain control as the fight progressed. After suffering significant damage, he was unable to secure the takedowns needed to change the momentum of the bout. His record now stands at 24 wins and 4 losses.

In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her women’s flyweight title against Manon Fiorot. All three judges scored the fight 48-47, confirming Shevchenko’s dominance throughout the bout. The win marks her 13th consecutive victory, further solidifying her legacy in the sport.

Another highlight from the card was Aiemann Zahabi‘s victory over Brazilian legend Jose Aldo. Zahabi’s relentless pressure earned him a unanimous decision, prompting Aldo to announce his retirement from MMA.
