Jacoby Brissett Arizona Cardinals Signing

PHOENIX, Arizona — Quarterback Jacoby Brissett is expected to sign with the Arizona Cardinals for the upcoming 2025 NFL season, reuniting with offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. The news was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Brissett began the 2024 season as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots, but was replaced by rookie Drake Maye after six games. Brissett returned to the starting role in Week 8, stepping in for Maye, who had been evaluated for a concussion. In that game, Brissett led the Patriots to a hard-fought 25-22 victory over the New York Jets, completing a game-winning drive that he described as one of his proudest moments of the season.

Brissett’s 2024 statistics included 826 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception on 61.9% completion. While not spectacular, he provided stability during a tumultuous season for the Patriots, who struggled with offensive line issues, altering personnel in front of him on five different occasions. Over the course of the season, Brissett took 49 hits in his first five starts, contributing to a difficult year for the team.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Brissett was originally drafted in the third round by the New England Patriots in 2016. During his nine-year career, he has played for five different teams, accumulating 11,400 passing yards, 53 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions across 87 regular-season games. In his time with the Patriots, Brissett played particularly well, mentoring Maye and helping prepare him for his successful 12-game stretch as a starter.

Brissett will now serve as the backup to Kyler Murray in Arizona, bringing with him valuable experience and knowledge to the quarterback room. Petzing, who coached Brissett during his time with the Cleveland Browns, is anticipated to utilize his skills to further solidify the Cardinals’ offensive strategy.

Having faced challenges during his last season in New England, Brissett’s move to Arizona marks a new chapter in his career as he seeks to help the Cardinals contend in the highly competitive NFC West.
