Enzo Maresca praised Chelsea‘s new loan signing Jadon Sancho following his impressive performance against AFC Bournemouth. Sancho, who joined Chelsea on a temporary deal from Manchester United, made a significant impact by assisting Christopher Nkunku‘s decisive goal. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Chelsea.

Sancho, making his first Premier League appearance after a year, was brought on at halftime. His involvement in the game immediately changed Chelsea’s dynamics as he set up the match-winning goal in the 86th minute with a precise pass to Nkunku. Sancho had previously resolved differences with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag over the summer, leading to his loan move on transfer deadline day.

Maresca expressed his satisfaction with Sancho’s debut performance, noting the winger’s contributions on both ends of the pitch. “Very happy, very happy for him,” Maresca commented. “Jadon is a player who thrives on support and love from those around him. He wanted to show his capabilities, and tonight’s performance was just as expected.”

Throughout the match, Bournemouth proved challenging, with Marcus Tavernier‘s shot hitting the crossbar early on and Evanilson earning a penalty, which he subsequently missed. Despite these opportunities, Bournemouth could not find the back of the net. Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez made pivotal saves that kept them in the game.

Maresca further restructured the team by introducing Sancho at halftime, which balanced Chelsea’s attack and defense. Although Sancho received a yellow card for dissent, his overall contribution was indispensable, culminating in the crucial assist for Nkunku’s goal.

Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, chose not to criticize Evanilson for his missed penalty or comment extensively on referee Anthony Taylor’s decision, which saw 14 yellow cards issued — a Premier League record. “We were probably the better team,” Iraola stated, noting missed chances and Chelsea’s defensive resilience as key factors in the result.

Jadon Sancho, after the game, expressed his joy over making his Chelsea debut and helping secure a win. “It is amazing to make my debut for Chelsea and just be back playing,” he said. Maresca anticipates that this is just the beginning of many positive contributions from Sancho as Chelsea seeks to build momentum.
