Jaguars Center Mitch Morse Announces Retirement After Ten NFL Seasons

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mitch Morse, the veteran center for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has announced his retirement from the NFL after a decade-long career that included stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. The announcement came Thursday morning, shortly after Morse confirmed his decision on social media.
“The things I’ll remember and cherish most about my career are the relationships and bonds I created with my teammates, both on and off of the field,” Morse said in a statement. “Nothing can replace that, and I will miss it dearly. I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Jacksonville Jaguars for ten unforgettable seasons. Most of all, I want to thank my wife, Caitlin, and my children, Kennedy and Deacon, for their constant love and support on this journey. I look forward to spending more time with them as I navigate retirement.”
The 32-year-old Morse started all 17 regular-season games for the Jaguars in 2024 after joining the team as a free agent. His departure signifies a significant change for the Jaguars’ offensive line, as Morse becomes the fourth starting center in five seasons.
Morse’s retirement follows the exit of longtime starter Brandon Linder, who retired before the 2022 season after anchoring the line from 2014 to 2021. Luke Fortner filled the starting role from 2022 to 2023, but now the Jaguars face uncertainty in their offensive front as they approach the 2025 season.
During his career, Morse played five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, starting 77 games and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2022. Before his time in Buffalo, he played four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, starting 49 games. He was drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Missouri.
In his final season in Jacksonville, Morse provided a solid presence on the offensive line, allowing only three sacks and two quarterback hits in 634 pass-blocking snaps, according to team statistics. His performance was vital for the Jaguars, who may need to find solutions at both center and right guard, as the team is projected to enter the 2025 campaign with holes to fill on the offensive line.
As Morse steps away from the spotlight, the Jaguars will begin their search for a new starting center, a task that has become increasingly crucial in a league focused on enhancing offensive efficiency.
More updates are expected as the Jaguars prepare for free agency starting on March 12, where they will look to address their offensive line needs and solidify the core for the upcoming season.
