Jaguars’ Devin Lloyd Shines with Historic Pick-Six

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd made history last night, returning an interception for a 99-yard touchdown during a thrilling game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The play not only marked the longest defensive touchdown in Jaguars’ history but also the longest touchdown in the NFL so far this season.
Lloyd’s impressive return contributed significantly to the Jaguars’ victory over the Chiefs, showcasing his remarkable turnaround this season. Just nine months ago, Lloyd was seen as a potential bust after struggling with positioning and coverage. Now, he is the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September and a front-runner for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
“That was a long, long way,” Lloyd said after the game, reflecting on the exhausting run back. The interception came when he faked a blitz and then dropped back into coverage, intercepting the pass intended for one of the Chiefs’ receivers. He broke multiple tackles, receiving key blocks from teammates along the way as he raced into the end zone.
This play marked Lloyd’s fourth interception in as many games, equaling the total he accumulated in his first three seasons combined. It was also the first touchdown of his NFL career, boosting his turnover tally to five this season—more than a third of the Jaguars’ leading total of 14.
“It was just a great call,” Lloyd explained. “I was able to pop out, and thankfully, the ball was right there.” His efforts have not gone unnoticed by head coach Liam Coen, who praised Lloyd’s commitment to improvement and his physically fit state, having a standout training camp.
Looking ahead, the Jaguars will face a tough challenge this Sunday against the high-scoring Miami Dolphins, who are currently among the top teams in the league. But Lloyd’s performance gives the Jaguars confidence as they aim for a strong defensive showing.
