Travis Hunter Injury News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter will be placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury suffered during practice on Thursday, coach Liam Coen announced on Friday. This injury is expected to sideline him for at least four games.

Initial assessments indicate that Hunter’s ACL is intact, as reported by a source to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Hunter is set to undergo further testing to better understand the injury’s severity, with results likely revealed next week.

“We’re currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and for the team,” Coen stated. “I feel bad for the guy, for the kid, for our team, for everything, but he’s in good spirits right now. Minor setback for a major comeback.”

The injury occurred while Hunter was practicing on defense. He had recently shown impressive form, catching eight passes for 101 yards and his first NFL touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in London before the bye week.

Hunter, a former Heisman Trophy winner, has made significant contributions in his rookie season, totaling 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he has recorded 15 tackles and three pass breakups while logging 67% of offensive snaps and 36% of defensive snaps.

Hunter’s setback comes at a challenging time for the Jaguars, who are currently 4-3 on the season and recently lost two consecutive games. Adjustments to their offensive game plan will be necessary as they prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Hunter’s absence is compounded by injuries elsewhere on the team, particularly among wide receivers. Coen expressed confidence in the remaining players, saying, “It is definitely not ideal timing… but I have a lot of belief in Travis as a person, as a competitor, to come back better than ever.”

In Hunter’s absence, Jacksonville has signed another player to the active roster to fill the gap. The team hopes to keep their playoff hopes alive despite these injuries as they move through the second half of the season.
