Jaguars Release Veteran WR Gabe Davis After One Season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis, just one year after signing him to a three-year contract worth $39 million. The announcement came early Wednesday morning, confirming the team’s shift in their receiver lineup.
The Jaguars signed Davis as a free agent in 2024 after he had a successful four-year career with the Buffalo Bills. However, his performance in Jacksonville fell short of expectations. During the 2024 season, the 26-year-old played 10 games, catching only 20 passes for 239 yards and scoring two touchdowns, which marked career lows.
This decision to cut Davis follows the Jaguars’ acquisition of Dyami Brown in free agency and their selection of Travis Hunter Jr. in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Hunter is expected to start his NFL career on the offensive side, prompting the Jaguars to rethink their receiving corps.
According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, releasing Davis means the Jaguars will incur a $20.3 million dead-cap charge for the 2025 season. Davis was initially seen as a key addition to enhance Jacksonville’s passing game but will now look for other opportunities.
This move signals a new direction for the Jaguars as they prepare for the upcoming season.
