Jahmyr Gibbs Becomes 28th Alabama Player to Rush Over 1,000 Yards
Detroit, MI – On Thanksgiving Day, Jahmyr Gibbs made history as the 28th player from Alabama to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single NFL season. The Detroit Lions running back reached this milestone despite the team’s 31-24 defeat to the Green Bay Packers.
Gibbs contributed significantly during the game, recording 68 rushing yards on 20 attempts. With this performance, he has now accumulated 1,019 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for the season. However, he did not score against the Packers, marking the second game this season where he was unable to find the end zone.
This match was not the first time the Packers bested the Lions this season; they also won their earlier matchup 27-13. Gibbs’s achievement places him among a prestigious group of Alabama football alumni who have rushed for over 1,000 yards in the NFL.
His predecessor, Josh Jacobs, also played on Thanksgiving and recorded 83 rushing yards on 17 carries, raising his seasonal total to 731 yards.
Several other players from Alabama have reached the 1,000-yard milestone, bolstering the strong legacy of Alabama football in the NFL. Furthermore, Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens is making strides toward his seventh 1,000-yard season, currently sitting at 871 rushing yards as he prepares to face the Cincinnati Bengals in the coming weeks.
