Jakob Ingebrigtsen Track Athlete Injury

Oslo, Norway — Olympic 5,000 meters champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen may have to delay the start of his outdoor season due to an Achilles injury, Norwegian media reported Monday. The 24-year-old athlete experienced a slight strain on his Achilles tendon, prompting him to postpone a planned training camp at altitude, according to his spokesperson, Espen Skoland.

“Most likely, he will have to delay the start of his season,” Skoland stated. “They’re working on getting it under control, but he’s taking no risks.” Ingebrigtsen, who is also the defending champion in the 1,500 meters, is expected to miss the Bislett Games, scheduled for June 12, if his recovery does not progress smoothly.

Ingebrigtsen’s anticipated season opener was meant to include a rivalry showdown against Britain’s Josh Kerr at the London Diamond League meeting in July. However, his Achilles concerns are a major setback for an athlete who has been a dominant force in middle-distance running.

This is not the first time Ingebrigtsen has faced injury challenges. He was sidelined during the entire 2024 indoor season, and he began his 2023 campaign late due to similar issues. “Work is now underway to make it happen, but he is not taking any risks,” Skoland added.

The athlete’s personal life adds another layer of complexity as he navigates an ongoing trial involving his father, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, who faces allegations of abuse against two of his children. This trial is expected to conclude by May 15, though the timing of a verdict remains uncertain.

As Ingebrigtsen manages both injury recovery and personal challenges, fans are left wondering when they will see him back on the track. Despite these hurdles, he has continued to express his commitment to pushing the limits of his abilities.
