Jalen Brunson Returns as Knicks Face Pistons with Playoffs Approaching

NEW YORK, N.Y. — New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson is set to return for the team’s crucial matchup against the Detroit Pistons on April 10, 2025, after overcoming an ankle injury that sidelined him for several weeks.
Brunson’s recovery was closely monitored since he initially sustained the injury during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on March 6. The 28-year-old missed 15 games, during which the Knicks managed an 8-7 record, underscoring his importance to the team’s success. Currently, the Knicks are positioned third in the Eastern Conference with a 48-28 record.
Before his injury, Brunson showcased stellar performances, averaging 28 points, seven assists, and three rebounds over 28 consecutive games. After being cleared to play, he logged 34 minutes in a recent victory against the Phoenix Suns, contributing 15 points, six assists, and two rebounds.
Brunson’s availability for Thursday night is a significant boost for the Knicks as they attempt to even the series against Detroit, having dropped the last two encounters. He has scored at least 30 points in all three matchups against the Pistons this season, and his ability to score and draw fouls will be pivotal for New York.
“It feels great to be back on the court, especially in a critical time of the season,” Brunson said after the practice. “The team has fought hard in my absence, and I’m ready to contribute to our playoff push.”
The Pistons, currently sitting in the sixth seed, are looking to regain momentum and boost their playoff positioning as well. The matchup is heightened by the potential for future playoff scenarios, given that the Knicks and Pistons may face off again in the postseason.
In addition to the return of Brunson, the Knicks will have to contend with a reinvigorated Pistons lineup, which may welcome Tobias Harris back from injury. His return would add stability to a Detroit team looking to close the regular season strong.
“Having Tobias back in the lineup changes things for us,” said Pistons coach Dwane Casey. “He brings leadership and versatility, which are essential at this stage of the season.”
The game’s importance is further amplified by the tactical maneuvers required by both teams to secure a favorable playoff position. The Knicks will be without key players Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, and Mitchell Robinson, which could impact their defensive strategies, especially against Detroit’s dynamic offense.
Thursday’s game will tip off at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Fans can watch the game on Fan Duel Sports Network. With the playoffs looming, both teams will be eager to assert their dominance in what could be a preview of the upcoming postseason showdown.
