Jalen Green’s Hot Streak Fuels Rockets’ Rise in Western Conference
HOUSTON, Texas — Jalen Green is in the midst of the most consistent stretch of his NBA career, and the Houston Rockets are reaping the benefits. The fourth-year guard has been on a scoring tear, averaging 30.2 points over his last eight games, while shooting an impressive 52% from the field and 48% from beyond the arc. This surge has propelled the Rockets to a 14-6 record in their last 20 games, securing the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
Green’s recent performances have been nothing short of spectacular. Over his last nine games, he has scored at least 20 points in each, including a 42-point outburst against the Golden State Warriors and a 34-point game against the Denver Nuggets. His efficiency has been equally remarkable, with shooting splits of 53% from the field, 49% from three, and 93% from the free-throw line during this stretch.
“Jalen Green,” said Rockets guard Fred VanVleet when asked about the team’s recent offensive surge. “He’s been the difference.”
Green’s improved play has been a welcome sight for a Rockets team that has struggled with consistency in recent years. After a strong start to the season, Green hit a rough patch, averaging just 16 points on poor shooting over a 16-game stretch. However, a 28-point performance against the Sacramento Kings on Dec. 23, 2024, marked a turning point. Since then, Green has been on a roll, averaging 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists over his last 20 games.
Head coach Ime Udoka has been particularly impressed with Green’s commitment to defense, a key factor in earning consistent fourth-quarter minutes. “Playing defense was a big part of that,” Green said. “I’m just trying to stay on the floor and earn [Udoka’s] trust to play the big minutes in the fourth quarter.”
The Rockets’ success during Green’s hot streak is undeniable. The team is 8-0 when he scores 30 or more points and has won seven of its last nine games. Green’s ability to elevate his game has been a driving force behind Houston’s rise in the standings, but the question remains: Can he sustain this level of play?
Green’s career has been marked by flashes of brilliance followed by periods of inconsistency. Last season, he averaged over 30 points during an 11-game win streak but struggled with his shooting before and after that stretch. This season, however, there are signs that Green may be turning a corner. His improved efficiency and defensive effort suggest that this hot streak could be more than just a temporary surge.
As the Rockets continue their push for playoff contention, all eyes will be on Jalen Green. If he can maintain his current level of play, Houston could emerge as a legitimate threat in the Western Conference. For now, the Rockets are enjoying the ride, and Green is proving that he has the potential to be the franchise player they’ve been waiting for.
