Jameis Winston New York Giants Signing Announcement

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Free agent quarterback Jameis Winston announced Friday that he has agreed to a two-year contract with the New York Giants worth $8 million, according to sources close to the situation. The signing comes after weeks of speculation regarding the Giants’ quest for a veteran quarterback.

Winston’s announcement on social media included a playful nod to his famed pregame speech while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stating, “Start spreading the neWs 🍎,” confirming his excitement about joining New York.

The Giants sought a quarterback amid ongoing discussions with high-profile options like Aaron Rodgers, who recently visited the team but ultimately re-signed with the Green Bay Packers. With the signing of Winston, the Giants now have two quarterbacks on their roster alongside Tommy DeVito.

This move aligns with co-owner John Mara‘s expressed priority to find the team’s quarterback of the future. The Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, where they are expected to pursue another young quarterback.

Winston, 31, previously played for the Cleveland Browns last season after a four-year stint with the New Orleans Saints. During the 2024 season, he started seven games, throwing for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

“Would I really sign with the Giants? Absolutely!” Winston told NJ Advance Media earlier this offseason. His interest in the Giants was reportedly influenced by conversations with running back Saquon Barkley, who encouraged him to consider New York.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound quarterback was the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Over ten seasons, he has played in 105 games, completing 61.2% of his passes for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns, and 111 interceptions.

Winston’s familiarity with the league and starting experience makes him a valuable asset for the Giants, who are eager to solidify their quarterback position moving forward.
