James Gunn Teases First Look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl
LEAVESDEN, England — Filming for the highly anticipated DC Universe film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has officially begun at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with director James Gunn sharing a cryptic first look at star Milly Alcock in character. The image, posted on social media, shows Alcock from behind, sporting a hoodie with the Supergirl logo and a neon-lit set dominated by red and blue hues.
Gunn, who co-heads DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, expressed his excitement, writing, “Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros.” The film marks the second major project in the revamped DC Universe, following the upcoming “Superman: Legacy,” set to release in July 2025.
While plot details remain tightly guarded, Gunn has hinted at a darker, more complex portrayal of Supergirl. Unlike Superman, who was raised by loving parents on Earth, Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) spent her formative years on a fragment of Krypton, witnessing the deaths of those around her. “She’s a much harsher and more f—ked up Supergirl than we’ve been used to so far,” Gunn revealed.
The film is directed by Craig Gillespie, known for his work on “Cruella” and “I, Tonya,” with a script by Ana Nogueira. The story adapts the acclaimed comic book miniseries by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, promising a visually stunning and emotionally resonant narrative.
Joining Alcock in the cast are David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham, who will play Supergirl’s parents, adding depth to the film’s exploration of family and resilience. Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman, will also appear as the antihero Lobo, while Matthias Schoenaerts is set to portray the villain Krem.
“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, and is expected to expand the DC Universe with its bold storytelling and star-studded cast. Fans eagerly await further updates as production continues.
