PARIS, France – Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3) on Friday to secure a spot in the French Open final. This victory allows Sinner to compete for his fourth Grand Slam title against Carlos Alcaraz, the current world No. 1.

Sinner showcased impressive skill and accuracy on Court Philippe Chatrier, becoming only the second Italian man to reach the final at Roland Garros, following in the footsteps of Adriano Panatta, the 1976 champion. This win extends Sinner’s Grand Slam winning streak to 20 matches after his victories at the U.S. Open and Australian Open earlier in the year.

Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, struggled against Sinner’s aggressive play. In a decisive third set, Djokovic fought hard but faltered in the tiebreaker, missing an easy smash that contributed to his defeat.

<p“These are rare and special moments,” Sinner said after the match. “I’m very happy.” He expressed respect for Djokovic, stating, “It was such a special occasion playing against Novak in the semifinals of a Grand Slam.”

Despite Djokovic’s experience and achievements, Sinner effectively controlled the match, often forcing Djokovic into defense. Djokovic will not have the opportunity to go for a record 25th Grand Slam title at this year’s tournament. After the match, he praised Sinner’s performance, congratulating him on a well-played match.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz and Sinner are set for a historic final on Sunday, marking the first time two male players born after 2000 compete for a major title. Their previous encounters have favored Alcaraz, who leads their head-to-head record, but Sinner remains optimistic.

I’m happy to be in the final,” Sinner stated. “We will do our best and I will see what I can do.” The highly anticipated final is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. ET.
