Jannik Sinner Returns to Form Ahead of Bublik Clash in Halle

Halle, Germany — Jannik Sinner has returned to winning form in his first match of the grass court season at the Halle Open. After a tough five-set defeat earlier this month, Sinner faced Yannick Hanfmann in the first round, where he secured a victory.
This win sets up an intriguing matchup against Alexander Bublik, whom Sinner respects highly. In a press conference, Sinner noted that Bublik, a former Halle Open champion, poses a significant challenge on grass. “He’s a very talented player,” Sinner said. “He likes or loves playing on grass, which is his favorite surface. He has beaten me here and also won the tournament, so it will be a very difficult game.”
Sinner highlighted Bublik’s strong serve, stating, “I think he serves really well; it will be incredibly difficult to break him. I have to stay very focused on my serve and then see what I can do.” He added that the upcoming match will be exciting and emphasized the importance of concentration.
As the media continued pressing about Bublik, Sinner shared his thoughts on playing against unconventional players. “You simply have little control because you have to get through on your service games and then see what you can do on the return games,” he explained. “I think on grass he is one of the best servers we have.”
The match between Sinner and Bublik will mark the sixth encounter between the two athletes, with Sinner leading the series 4-1. However, their record on grass is even, with one win apiece. Bublik’s lone victory on grass occurred in 2023 during the Halle tournament, a match in which Sinner had to retire due to injury. Their previous completed match on the grass was at the Libema Open the same year, which Sinner won.
The highly anticipated match will take place on Thursday, June 19.
