Jasmine Paolini Tennis Match

ROME — Jasmine Paolini defeated Ons Jabeur in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last 16 of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia for the first time. This victory provided a boost to fans after the earlier exit of hometown favorite Iga Swiatek to Danielle Collins.

During a break in the match, the DJ played Bob Sinclar’s “Cruel Summer,” reflecting the mixed emotions around the tournament, especially after Swiatek’s loss. Despite the pressure, Paolini dominated the latter stages of her match, winning the last 12 points in a row.

Paolini spoke about the emotional experience of playing on such a prestigious court. “There were many emotions. It was special to be here,” she said. As her confidence grew, she eased the anxiety of fans who had been tense during Swiatek’s match.

Francesca Minetti from the Italian Tennis Federation praised Paolini, saying, “She’s a sunny girl.” The crowd enthusiastically supported Paolini throughout her performance and into her post-match interview.

Fans like Giuseppe, wearing a Jannik Sinner T-shirt, have rallied behind Paolini, noting her fighting spirit. “I love the people,” Paolini said. “Especially the Italians — always so loud and passionate.”

Her next opponent will be former semifinalist Jelena Ostapenko. Ostapenko advanced to this round after Laura Siegemund withdrew due to injury.
