Jasprit Bumrah Bowling Bangladesh Test 2024

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace bowler, delivered a crucial performance on Day 5 of the second Test against Bangladesh, held in Kanpur on October 1, 2024. Bumrah’s spell of 3/17, which included the key dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim on the final ball before lunch, significantly shifted the momentum in favor of India. This vital wicket came as Bangladesh attempted to adopt a defensive approach to withstand India’s bowling attack throughout the morning session.

India’s dominance with the ball was showcased as Bumrah, alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, each claimed three wickets. These efforts, complemented by a wicket from Akash Deep, resulted in Bangladesh being bowled out for a mere 146 runs in their second innings. Consequently, India was left with a target of only 95 runs to secure a series victory.

The pivotal moment of the innings occurred when Mushfiqur, alongside Khaled Ahmed, was trying to build a resistance for Bangladesh. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma entrusted Bumrah with the final over before lunch. Responding to the call yet again, Bumrah executed a perfect slow-cutter delivery that uprooted Mushfiqur’s middle stump, ending Bangladesh’s innings.

The dismissal not only amplified India’s control over the game but also put them in a prime position to swiftly chase down the modest target after the lunch break. Given the strong form demonstrated by India’s batters, the target seemed attainable, barring any exceptional performances by Bangladesh’s bowlers.

The lunch session was extended by half an hour as India expedited the fall of Bangladesh’s wickets. Ashwin, who recorded figures of 3/50, and Jadeja with 3/34, provided substantial support to Bumrah’s efforts. The innings highlighted Bumrah’s consistent ability to deliver under pressure and his critical role in India’s bid to clinch the series.

The match, significantly affected by rain, saw Bangladesh scoring 233 runs in their first innings. In response, India declared at 285/9 on the fourth day. With Bumrah’s contributions, India positioned themselves strongly to claim a clean sweep in the two-match series.
