Jaxson Dart Models Game After Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Jaxson Dart, the former Ole Miss quarterback and first-team All-SEC honoree, shared his admiration for NFL MVP Jalen Hurts during a press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday. Dart expressed his appreciation for Hurts’ play style, citing similarities between their approaches to the game.
“I think it’s a little bit of a cop-out because he just won the Super Bowl, but I love J Hurts and what he does,” Dart said, referring to the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback who recently led his team to victory in Super Bowl LIX. “I feel like I’m very similar in my play style to him. I feel like we can do a lot of the same things.”
Dart, who began his college career at USC before transferring to Ole Miss in 2022, highlighted Hurts’ versatility as a key aspect that inspires him. “Obviously, he’s an elite player and I’m trying to reach that level. He’s somebody that I’ve tried to resemble my game after just because of his versatility — being able to run and throw the ball, and just how strong he is in the pocket,” Dart explained.
During his collegiate career, Dart posted impressive statistics, throwing for nearly 12,000 yards while also rushing for over 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns. He noted that despite never having sat on the bench during his time at Ole Miss, he would welcome the chance to learn from a veteran quarterback in the NFL. “I’ve never sat on the bench before, so that would definitely be an adjustment early on,” he said. “I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all. It’s an opportunity to learn as much as you can from a veteran who knows the game well.”
Dart acknowledged the benefits he could gain from watching and learning from established quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love, who have successfully transitioned into their starting roles after spending time developing on the bench. “You’ve got to be a sponge. I think a lot of times, you’ve seen some of the most successful quarterbacks come out of situations like that,” Dart said. “I know I can make a room better; I can make a team better, so I’m just going to soak in knowledge wherever I go.”
As the NFL Combine progresses, Dart is set to participate in on-field drills, which will take place on Saturday at noon CT. Fans and scouts alike are eager to see how he measures up against other top quarterback prospects.
