Jay Shah Icc Chairman

Jay Shah, currently serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will assume the position of Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) starting December 1, 2024.

This transition has generated curiosity regarding the differences in his compensation structure at the ICC compared to his current earnings with the BCCI. As the BCCI Secretary, Shah’s role is honorary, and he does not receive a regular salary. Instead, he is compensated through various allowances and reimbursements.

Reports indicate that Shah receives approximately ₹84,000 ($1,000) per day for participating in international cricket meetings or tours, while for domestic meetings within India, his daily allowance is ₹40,000. For other work trips in India unrelated to meetings, he is entitled to ₹30,000 per day. The BCCI also covers his travel and accommodation, frequently booking luxury hotel suites for him.

His upcoming role as ICC Chairman is expected to mirror this compensation structure. Similar to the BCCI, the ICC does not have a fixed salary for high-ranking officials; instead, compensation is provided through allowances and benefits linked to their responsibilities. Specific payment details from the ICC remain undisclosed.

Moreover, the BCCI previously enjoyed tax exemptions under the Income Tax Act, specifically under Section 11, which related to its status as a charitable organization. However, this status was lost in 2012, leading to the BCCI’s income being assessed under ‘Business Income.’

Despite these changes, the BCCI continues to hold its status as the wealthiest cricket board globally. Jay Shah’s tenure at the BCCI, which began in October 2019, has been marked by significant contributions, particularly in promoting gender equality in cricket.
