Jaylen Brown Undergoes Knee Surgery, Expects Full Recovery by Training Camp

Boston, MA — Celtics star Jaylen Brown underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday. The procedure aims to alleviate ongoing pain and is expected to allow him to participate in the 2025 training camp without limitations.
The Celtics described Brown’s surgery as a “right knee arthroscopic debridement procedure,” which requires a shorter recovery time compared to a full meniscus repair. Brown, who has struggled with right knee pain since March, had missed several games and was found to have a partially torn meniscus after the season.
During the postseason, Brown’s performance was still commendable despite the injury; he averaged 22.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. He played through the pain and did not miss any playoff games, scoring at least 20 points in five of the six games during Boston’s second-round series.
Brown’s surgery comes shortly after Celtics co-star Jayson Tatum also faced injury issues and is expected to miss much of the 2025-26 season. This situation creates a significant opportunity for Brown to step up as the team leader if he returns to full health.
His struggle with the injury included receiving pain injections since March. After the Celtics were eliminated by the New York Knicks in the playoffs, it was decided that surgery was necessary. Just before the surgery, Brad Stevens, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations, acknowledged that Brown had been dealing with the injury “for a long time” and noted encouraging signs of improvement toward the end of the playoffs.
As the offseason approaches, the Celtics may look to make changes to their roster. Reports suggest that the team is considering trades, and Brown could attract interest from other teams if the Celtics decide to shake things up. He has spent all nine seasons of his NBA career with Boston after being selected third overall in the 2016 draft.
