Jazz Chisholm Jr. Breaks Cold Spell with Home Run in Yankees Win

BRONX, N.Y. — Jazz Chisholm Jr. overcame a recent offensive slump to hit a solo home run in the eighth inning against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. The 83-degree weather in the Bahamas felt like a distant memory for the Nassau native, as he played in a frigid Bronx temperature of 54 degrees amidst a challenging stretch of games.
Having entered the game with an 0-for-24 skid, Chisholm’s performance became crucial as the Yankees sought to secure a win. His home run marked not only a personal milestone—his fifth of the season in just 15 games—but also a necessary contribution to his team’s efforts after struggling through the previous week in cold conditions.
Chisholm expressed the challenges of adapting his game to such weather, stating, “It’s been the worst for me. I’m from the Bahamas, I’m used to the warm weather. That’s probably the coldest I’ve ever played in, this past week. I gotta go out there and do my best every day.”
For Chisholm, who spent his first four and a half seasons in Miami, the transition to a colder climate has proven difficult. He acknowledged the unique set of challenges posed by starting the season in chilly temperatures, especially with road games scheduled in Pittsburgh and Detroit.
“I felt like I could have played with no sleeves today,” Chisholm remarked, reflecting on his comfort level during the game compared to the last week. He had previously layered up with multiple clothing items and relied on various hot remedies to stay warm.
“A lot of Vaseline — shoutout Vaseline, send me some,” he said, laughing. “There’s no excuses. This is our job and this is what we gotta go do.”
Despite his difficulties, Chisholm maintained a strong barrel rate of 21.9 percent, placing him in the 97th percentile among players before Sunday’s game. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted the impact of the weather on Chisholm’s performance, suggesting it may have contributed to his recent struggles.
“He’s gonna get hot, I feel like,” Boone said. “But I do feel like the weather’s probably had a little bit of an effect on him here, especially the last several days.”
As the Yankees continue their schedule, Chisholm’s recovery from his cold streak may herald better performances ahead, and fans will be watching closely as he adjusts to life in the Bronx.
